Welcome to this veterinary approved and externally accredited First Aid for Dogs course.

Would you know how to save your dog’s life in an emergency?
This veterinary approved and accredited online course is suitable for pet owners and pet professionals, fulfilling continuing professional development (CPD) requirements. Covering a range of topics with video demonstrations, downloads to keep, tutor help if you need it and a final accredited course certificate.

The course has been designed for pet professionals, fulfilling continuing professional development (CPD) requirements. However, it is suitable for pet owners too.

This course concentrates on the dog although many of the first aid principles apply to other mammals too as the body systems work in a very similar way.

By the end of the course you should be able to:

  • Recognise a range of First aid situations.
  • Be able to carry out a safe assessment of the animal.
  • Be able to respond to a range of first aid situations.
  • Have the confidence to carry out basic first aid treatments whilst waiting for veterinary attention.
1. The course recognises that the veterinary surgeons act 1966 restricts the diagnosis and treatment of an animal by another person other than a qualified and registered veterinary surgeon. However any lay person can carry out first aid in an emergency situation.
2. For all first aid cases, a veterinary surgeon should be contacted as soon as possible.
The course is not designed to replace veterinary treatment.

  1. Brilliant Course

The course is detailed and informative, and suitable for people of all levels of experience. I would recommend this course to anyone wanting to learn about first aid.

  2. Brilliant course!

This is a really good course and anybody can do it. It covers a lot of information but in a manner that somebody who isn’t a qualified nurse can do it or even for somebody in the animal industry can do and enjoy!

Excellent course, suitable for pet owners and veterinary professionals alike. Would highly recommend.

  4. An educational and thorough course

I’m a pet owner and not a professional but still I found this course to be understandable and enjoyable. The course videos are a perfect addition to better interpret the content and how to put it into practice. I will be recommending this to anyone I know with a dog!

  5. An educational and user-friendly course

The course is very easy to use, I was able to navigate easily between lessons and pick up where I last left off on different devices. The course is written well and I found it really beneficial as a pet owner.

  6. A great course for pet owners - absolutely recommend!

Our vets are brilliant, but I’ve always worried about what would happen if there was an emergency in the night or when we were out in the fields, when it would take longer to get someone to us. With sudden illness and injuries I’ve felt completely helpless, knowing how crucial those first few minutes could be.

This course has really given me peace of mind. It’s obvious how much time and care has gone into creating it – everything was explained really well, the videos (especially with CPR) were massively helpful and I learned a lot.

I’d definitely recommend to all dog owners and look forward to further courses. Thank you! 🙂

  7. Informative and clear

This was a fantastic course. It was very informative about key first aid elements whilst being easy to understand and clear to navigate. Can’t wait for the next course.

  8. Excellent, definitely recommended for all

I’ve been doing this course in my spare time in the evenings and just completed it now. The course is a combination of video and simple text which is easy to follow and understand. Each unit ends with a multiple choice test which lets you flick back to the module notes if you get stuck. If you fail, you can always re-take the test so no pressure!! I recommend this to all pet owners as it’s really good thorough information to know in case of emergency.

  9. A very easy way of learning the basic skills required in an emergency situation

A very well presented course that has provided me with a basic knowledge of Pet First Aid when out and about with my Cross Staffordshire Bull terrier / Bull Mastiff “Bailey” who is full of life and loves to run and explore. If you own a dog you need this course to ensure you can cope in any situation, remember other dog owners may not have your knowledge and you might oneday use your skills to help others and save their pets. Many thanks and I will continue to keep my knowledge updated.

  10. Great course - full of informative content.

I really enjoyed completing the first aid course for dogs. The information was interesting and informative, whilst being well structured and simple to comprehend. It was good to be able to come back to the course whenever I wanted to and take it at my own time and the videos and diagrams were helpful in backing up the information. I feel more confident I could take care of my own dogs and the dogs I work with in an emergency now. Thank you Caroline.

  11. Very informative course.

Topics were broken down so that even those with no education in this field can understand it. I feel more equipped to deal with any emergency that arises with my own dogs and I enjoyed the relaxed way I was able to complete this course without any pressure or deadlines. Thank you Caroline!

  16. First Aid for Dogs

This first aid course is excellent, and very comprehensive. I found it easy to navigate and I liked the idea that you could save progress as you went along, meaning that you could study at your own pace. The Video tutorials were clear and informative. I like that there are downloads and printouts to keep on file for future use.

  17. Good course

Comprehensive course from which I learnt a lot. Obviously not the same as a ‘live’ course with real animals but still very useful. The video demonstrations were particularly helpful. Thank you Caroline.
